Overview
Many computer issues can be resolved by performing a restart. This helps clear temporary system errors and restore normal functionality.

When to Try This

  • Device is slow or unresponsive

  • Applications are not opening or responding correctly

  • Network or peripheral devices are not functioning as expected

  • Unexpected errors occur during normal use

  • System behavior is not matching expected performance

Restart Steps

  1. Save any open work

    • Ensure all files and applications are saved before proceeding

  2. Restart the device

    • Use the Restart option from the start menu or power options

      • On Windows 7 and later, a "Shut Down" is different from a "Restart". Please select Restart.

    • Allow the device to fully power off and back on

  3. Sign back in

  4. Test the issue again

    • Verify whether the original issue has been resolved
